What it shows
Four diodes arranged as a bridge send current through the load in the same direction on both halves of the AC cycle, turning AC into pulsating DC. A capacitor smooths the output.

Materials
- Four 1N4007 diodes
- An enclosed, ready-made low-voltage step-down transformer or a low-voltage AC supply
- An electrolytic capacitor and a load resistor or LED
- A breadboard and a multimeter
Safety
For this project: Never wire or touch the mains side yourself: use an enclosed transformer or a low-voltage AC supply from your teacher.
Never use mains electricity: power models with cells, batteries or a low-voltage adapter. Sharp and hot tools, flames and lab chemicals need an adult or your teacher beside you. Keep magnets, button cells and small parts away from young children, and wash your hands after making.
