About the course
ADCA is the broadest of the computer and office courses. It brings together computer fundamentals, Windows and the internet, the three main MS Office programs and touch typing: the everyday computer work of most offices, schools and shops.
It suits someone who wants one course for the whole desk: writing and printing a letter in Word, keeping a marks list or a stock sheet in Excel, presenting it in PowerPoint, sending it by email, and typing all of it quickly and accurately.
Drawn from the lessons of the study books below.
Know the parts of a computer, memory units and how files and folders are organised
Use Windows, File Explorer, keyboard shortcuts, the web browser and email with confidence
Write, format and print letters, tables and reports in Word, including mail merge
Build Excel sheets with formulas, IF and lookups, sort and filter data, and make charts
Make PowerPoint presentations with layouts, pictures, charts and animations
Touch type with the correct posture and measure your speed and accuracy

Practice and study material
Students sign in to read the study books lesson by lesson, print them, mark lessons as done and test themselves with timed practice tests, every answer explained.
Up to 20 questions are picked at random from the subject’s question bank.
A timer counts down. When it reaches zero, your answers are sent automatically.
Skip a question, flag it, and come back to change your answer before you submit.
At the end you see the right answer and an explanation for each question.
Each study book has its lessons, key points, exercises and a glossary. Print a lesson, or mark it as done.

Why does a CPU use cache memory?
Answer: A. To keep frequently used data close to the CPU for faster access
Cache is a small, very fast memory between the CPU and RAM. Keeping often-used data there saves the CPU from waiting for slower RAM.
Which view shows a Word document as it will look when printed and is used for normal editing?
Answer: C. Print Layout
Print Layout shows the pages with their margins, headers and footers as they will print.
Which wrist position is correct while typing?
Answer: B. Straight and slightly raised, not bent up or pressed on the desk edge
Straight, slightly raised wrists reduce strain and let the fingers move freely. Bending them or pressing them on the desk edge can cause pain over time.
The student portal has a typing test with live highlighting as you type. It works out your net words per minute and your accuracy, and saves each result so you can watch your speed improve.
