Plan, test and present
1. Choose a question
- I picked a topic I am curious about.
- My question can be tested with an experiment or survey.
- My teacher has approved the idea.
2. Plan the test
- I wrote a hypothesis: what I think will happen and why.
- I know what I will change (the variable) and what I will measure.
- I know what I must keep the same (fair test).
- I listed all the materials and where to get them.
- I wrote the steps in order.
3. Stay safe
- A grown-up knows what I am doing.
- I have goggles, gloves or other protection if needed.
- I am not using fire, sharp tools, mains electricity or strong chemicals without an adult.
4. Do the experiment
- I repeated the test at least three times.
- I wrote my measurements in a table straight away.
- I took photos of each stage.
- I kept a notebook with dates.
5. Make sense of the results
- I worked out averages where needed.
- I drew a graph or chart with labelled axes and units.
- I wrote what the results show.
- I wrote whether my hypothesis was right or wrong, and why.
6. Build the display
- Title, question, hypothesis, method, results and conclusion are all on the board.
- Text is large enough to read from one metre away.
- Photos and charts have captions.
- I listed my sources.
7. Get ready to present
- I can explain my project in two minutes.
- I practised answering questions such as: what would I change next time?
- I packed my notebook, materials and a spare copy of my report.
