Let us begin

The big idea

A tidy room is a happy room. When everything has its own place, we can find our things quickly, and the room looks nice. Tidying is easy when we do it a little every day.

Everything needs a home. Books go on the shelf, clothes go in the cupboard and toys go in a box. After we use something, we put it back in its home.

We can tidy in four small steps. First, pick up things from the floor. Second, put books and toys in their place. Third, put dirty clothes in the basket. Fourth, make the bed.

Tidying a little every day is easier than a big clean-up once a week. It takes only five minutes.

A tidy room is also safe. We do not trip over toys, and we do not lose our school things. A tidy school bag helps us find our books in the morning.

Worked examples

See how it works

  1. After play

Raju plays with blocks. When he is done, he puts all the blocks back in the box and the box on the shelf. His floor is clear again.

  2. Morning bed

Meena gets up and folds her blanket and straightens her pillow. Her bed looks neat in one minute.

  3. School bag at night

Before sleeping, Sam puts his books and pencil box in his bag. In the morning he does not have to search for anything.

Five minute tidy-up

You will need

  • A timer or a clock
  • A box or basket
  • A helper (optional)

What to do

  1. Set a timer for five minutes.
  2. Pick up everything from the floor and put it into the right place.
  3. Put dirty clothes into the laundry basket.
  4. Fold your blanket and straighten the pillow.
