Good manners and kindness
Learn the magic words please, thank you and sorry, and simple ways to be polite, share and be kind at home and school.
Let us begin
The big idea
Good manners show that we care about other people. Kind words and kind actions make everyone happy. You can be kind every single day!
There are some magic words. We say please when we ask for something. We say thank you when someone helps us or gives us something. We say sorry when we have hurt someone or made a mistake.
We say excuse me when we want to pass in front of someone or when we want to speak to a person who is busy.
We greet people politely. In the morning we say good morning or namaste to our teacher and to elders.
We wait for our turn in a line and we do not push. We listen quietly when others speak. We share our things with our friends.
We are kind when we help someone who is sad or who has dropped something. We keep our classroom, home and playground clean. We speak in a soft voice and never call people bad names.
Worked examples
See how it works
Asking for water
Say: Please give me some water. When you get it, say: Thank you. Both magic words are used.
A small accident
You bump into a friend by mistake. Say: Sorry! Then ask: Are you hurt? If your friend is hurt, tell the teacher.
Taking turns
Two children want the swing. Ria goes first for a short time. Then it is Kabir's turn. Taking turns is fair and kind.
Try it at home
